Amelia Island, and our time spent there, was incredible. I'm really missing it already and cannot wait to go back. We packed in our last week on the island and still couldn't fit in everything we wanted to do (looking at you kayaking)! Well, I won't keep you waiting any longer.
Lots of Walking
Like, so much. I crushed my step goal every day. And am proud to report that I am now on a 29-day streak. Go me!
The below picture was taken while walking around the Amelia Island Plantation which was our home for the month of March. I couldn't get a good picture but we saw JUMPING FISH!!!
There are so many safe places to walk and bike, and I just couldn't get enough of the scenery.
I'm in love with these decorative surfboards! My mom took the below pictures while on a 30-mile bike ride on the island.
Sunrise Beach Walks
Though this still fits in the category of walks, given how gorgeous these pictures are, I felt like it needed its own section. My parents live a half-mile from the beach and did we ever take advantage of that! We would get up before sunrise to make it down to the beach in time to see the sun come up. The beach and the sky looked different every day. We never got a day that wasn't at least a little cloudy but that didn't mean it wasn't beautiful. AND, all the more reason to come back! The last morning before we left the weather turned and it was cooolld but totally worth it for our last beach walk, for now at least. :(
EATING
One of the things we do best.
Bob's
Bob's Steak & Chop House is, you guessed it, a steak house right on the plantation. We choose this restaurant for Eric's birthday. Eric got a steak and I got the salmon. Both of our meals came with A GIANT CARROT. Did I laugh about the carrot a lot? Yes. Did I freaking love that carrot? Yes. It was delicious. 10/10 would eat again.
Salt Life
Apparently, Salt Life is a clothing company that also happens to have some pretty great restaurants called Salt Life Food Shack. The decor inside is beachy casual with an upscale twist. They also have plenty of outside seating and even had a guitar player. Eric got a poke bowl with tuna and I got CRAB LEGS. NOM NOM. wish I could go there again!!
Pogo's Kitchen
We brought the parents to Pogo's Kitchen. Self-described as "southern refinement with a bend", this restaurant brought both the visual appeal and the taste. Eric and dad got the szechuan duck (middle) and I got, you guessed it, the salmon (right). We also had oysters and mom had the scallops, which were ramen style. We had a great night, and I'd say that this restaurant was the best about social distancing on all the ones that we went to. They also won the 2019 Golden Spoon Award. While I have no idea what this is, it sounds amazing and therefore another reason for you to try Pogo's!
Home Cooking!
It would be remiss if I didn't mention all of the amazing cooking we did at the house. Mostly by my mom, sometimes dad, and rarely by me. We even made our own sushi! There is something to be said about comfort food that your parents make. Brought back a lot of memories and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to spend this time.
Downtown
The downtown area is filled with fun shops, places to eat, and a marina. We went down a couple of times for sightseeing, shopping, and pictures with pirates and it did not disappoint. Some of the yachts in the marina reminded me of the ones in the San Diego marina, big and fancy.
We also saw PIPPI LONGSTOCKING'S HOUSE!!! Oh yeah, you heard that right. And if you don't know who that is you better go watch the movie right now! I'm sure it will be horrible which tends to happen when you rewatch a movie from childhood but since it will be your first time, you will love it. Go, now, finish this later.
Doggy Toy Snuggles!
These dogs are missing their grandparents! And their momma is missing her parents and all the fun we had. I need more nights of card games! More long daily walks with my mom!! We had such a great time and are so lucky to have been able to spend as long as we did with them. Doggies are still loving their toys and do not want even me to touch them. That is Jazzy trying to punch me when I reached for the toy.
This Week
We just arrived in Indianapolis! Excited to explore the area, it seems very lively and the weather is gorgeous so far.
Until next time.
