We Made It!

Yes, yes we did. It was a long car ride. By the end, the dogs all but told us they weren't going to sit down anymore. But at least Cody and Jazzy got in some good snuggle time. And we did it! Made it to our first destination, Rockaway Beach, Oregon.

The Morning We Left

We started the real preparations for our trip more than a month ago and thought we were going to be good to go by the 12th. Sure, we would have a couple of minor things to do but really, cake. Get up, get in the car, go. And then life said "HA"! We had a hectic morning, to say the least, a drain clog (or maybe we just pushed down the drain plug by accident and didn't realize it for a long time, a really long time; we'll never tell). Or the fact that we never tested the roof rack for the car and the holes weren't in the right place. It didn't fit! But we yelled, BRING IT ON, and kept going. Bought a bunch of stuff to try to clear a perfectly working drain, no problemo. Drilled some new holes in that roof rack, and we are good to go. While hectic, we were really excited to head out and nothing could get in our way. All in all, leaving an hour and a half after expected isn't so bad.

The Trip

The excitement was real, even for the dogs who always love a good car ride. We made record time and even drove through a bunch of snow! I might have grown up in the northeast but I haven't seen snow for 10 years, so that was FUN. And since we just got a new car with AWD, I was powering through, to the point where I was politely asked to "slow down a bit". Ha! Me? NEVER!!

Please excuse the blurry shot here, action shot perfection in progress. (Eric wants you to know that this is a "damn good shot for being taken while flying through the snow").

The First Destination

Our first destination is Rockaway Beach, Oregon a beautiful beach town on the coast of Oregon and the first time here for all of us.

As we walked into the house, we were surprised with a nice welcome gift and a Christmas tree! We haven't been able to have a Christmas tree in years because we are always traveling so this touch really meant a lot to us.

Waking up this morning looking out the front door to our path leading right to the ocean made the morning even better. There are plenty of rip currents and sneaker waves. In my technical terms the"angry ocean", and I absolutely love it. You can hear the waves crashing from just about anywhere in the house. Sounds like we are headed for some rain, and I'm looking forward to having some relaxing time curled up on the couch with a blanket and some tea.

Plans for the Week Ahead

Our brand new car has an engine warning and some sort of a radiator shutter issue. No idea what is going on, but the first order of business will be getting that taken care of. Then, we plan to fill up the weekday nights and weekend days with sightseeing and some relaxing.

Hopefully, we will get some non-rainy days where we can do a little hiking and whale watching but even if we can't there will still be plenty of sightseeing we can do from the car! From the lighthouse at Cape Meares Park, driving through some of the other cool towns close by like Manzanita and Cannon Beach, and ordering some Tillamook cheese and ice cream from the creamery that is close by. We will have plenty to do!

We are now on social!

Check us out! And as always, leave a comment, thought, or feedback right on this blog or via the contact page.

Happy Travels!
